Characters

What characters do we want to have? I am guessing we will want Dorian, Sybil, a reporter, James Vane, and Basil at least. Who wants to play who? I must admit I would prefer playing a male, either Dorian or James would be fun.

Hey--
Well so far, we decided on the characters of:

Basil
Dorian
Sibyl
James
Reporter(s) (one at the desk & one out in the "streets")
And probably another character or two...so that we can each at least be two people (excepting the street reporter).
Jeremy wants to be the Reporter who is interviewing the dead.
Alesha is going to be Sibyl.
I think we picked you for James.
And I'm a desk reporter..and idk what else yet. We wanted to meet Saturday to work on the script...and then film on Monday since the project is due Wednesday. But I guess we will need to work some kinks out since you are going to be gone.
I seriously doubt you married folks will be willing to do anything on Vday besides be gooey and junk...lol...and Jeremy is probably doing something gooey and junk as well...
Anyway...yeah. Any new ideas for characters & stuff?

Thanks for filling me in. I think this is going to be fun. Sorry to throw some kinks into the project.
James is cool, I'm happy with that. I do want to take Breta out to dinner tomorrow, but if you guys can meet sometime I can work around it. I will be in big trouble if I take up too much time though. Does Alesha's husband want to be Dorian or Basil? I know she mentioned it. I have a brother who would be able to do one of the others if we want.

I don't know. I don't think we have to work on Vday if you guys have plans :p lol I donno what everyone's class schedules are like either. I have a few ideas floating around.
I think we were going to keep the cast to ourselves--I don't mind playing a guy...lol I'll just go raid my brother's closet or something. But we can bring in other people if you guys want to. I'm game either way.
I think it would be really funny to make every character a bit quirky.
We were talking about making Sibyl sort of like that princess from Enchanted.
And the reporter sort of like a Napleon Dynamite type (at least in speech).
I think it would be ridiculously annoying if the desk reporter had a Cockney accent and worked for the "BBC Underworld" news....lol
And what if we had a red glove or something that Dorian wore on his hand to represent blood?
Junk like that...little details..
I suppose we should focus on the broad spectrum first though. :)

BBC underworld news, I like it

Katara Pravda said...

haha..
yeah, it sounds all right.
we could be anxiously awaiting Dorian Gray's arrival...
"today is a big day here in the underworld.. we just got knews from Death himself that Dorian Gray is finally coming to join us!"

Eyezick said...

I like the touch that they heard it from death himself.

I keep trying to think of more ideas. Do we want accents and stuff? I think how we write the dialogue will depend on how we want the characters to look, speak and act.

I agree, I know we are going for what happens after the book, but are we going to make it modern? That would be easy because we would just wear normal clothes. For period clothes I think the best we could do would be church clothes, which I am not opposed to. I don't think we need to worry too much about accents, isn't the reporter going to speak like Napoleon Dynamite? If we do that then everybody should talk however they want. Probably stick with the same accent for each character. I mean if Dorian talks with a British, Russian, and Mexican accent alternately it will be a little ridiculous.

Katara Pravda said...

Well I think it would be ok for English accents to be around. Since it takes place in England.
And as far as the reporters go--I think anything can fly as far as they are concerned since they aren't even in the original...lol.
Idk how long this script will have to be to be 7-8 minutes long...
Any idea?

If you use the weird screenwriting format than for such a short thing it will probably be a page per minute. That format has lots and lots of white space on the page so don't freak out about 7 pages. It is easy. A full length movie is about 115 pages long.

Katara Pravda said...

Ok, that sounds about right actually. I guess we will find out more in class today about what we are going to do and when we are going to do it.
As for costumes..I think our ordinary clothes are ok.. or dressing up is ok too...I was thinking since we're each going to be playing at least 2 ppl that we could use dif hats or something simple just to differentiate.

Eyezick said...

I have some cool hats. I'll be sure to bring them. Why weren't you in class today? We missed you.

Katara Pravda said...

I have a few hats too..

I wasn't in classes today because I was having really bad anxiety--I actually got up to the smith building thinking it would go away by the time I got to class but it didn't so I thought it best to go home and take care of it there.

when are we meeting next? I am starting to feel better so I can meet whenever (and would meet even if i wasn't feeling well so that we can get this done).

So when are we meeting today, saturday? Or are we meeting saturday? If not, when are we meeting next-Monday or tuesday?

Alesha said...

My internet is up, for the time being. Okay, here's my idea: I think that we should each write our own lines, then mix and match from there, doing it all on the blog. Unless you all want to meet today...that would be okay as well. Does that sound all right with everyone? I will probably start on Sybil. Adam said he would be Dorian if we wanted him to be. Honestly, you guys are the creative geniuses, so I defer to your opinions.

Whatever works for everyone else works for me.

Excellent plan eyezick...I am currently working on my part. According to my notes, we have the following characters:

Reporter: Jeremy (Napoleon Dynamite)
Newsdesk lady: Lina
Dorian: Isaac or Adam?
Sybil: Alesha
Dorian's mother: Lina?
Basil: Isaac
James: Isaac
Some girl Dorian ruined: Lina or Alesha?
That gives us 8 characters--plenty for this project. So I guess I need to know whether Isaac wants to be Dorian as well as James and Basil, and if Lina wishes to be Dorian's mother and/or the girl Dorian ruins...I am happy with anything. Just let me know!

I love the idea of British accents! Also, I can help film Monday evening, but Tuesday would be better. I am out of class at 11:30 AM and so I can do it anytime after that. What times on Monday and Tuesday work best for y'all?

Katara Pravda said...

I can be Dorian's mother & a girl he ruined. If you want both.
No worries here.

Katara Pravda said...

I'm free Monday evening and also Tuesday til 3:15, then I have a class. But that class gets over at 4:45. So I'll be free for all but a couple hours on Tuesday.

And yeah I think accents would be fun.

Alesha said...

Thanks, Lina. Do you think we even need the random girl that Dorian ruins? I wrote my script for Sybil, and she begins as the Enchanted princess, but ends with a malicious smile...my writing has a mind of its own at times. Is the random girl needed, and do we have time?

Katara Pravda said...

Nah I don't think the random girl is needed. I think Dorian's mother & Sybil will be enough for the female imput on the story.
I havent started writing the lines yet for my characters--but I am thinking Dorian's mom will be in disbelief and/or denial that he's become such a bad person...

Katara Pravda said...

I think it might be good to put Alan Campbell in though--even if it's only a really short amount of time.

Alesha said...

My script is under "script." If you have time, tell me what you think.

Alesha said...

I agree...So, if you are the newsdesk person and Dorian's mom, Jeremy is the reporter, I am Sybil, and Isaac is Basil and James, then I could man up and be Alan. Sound okay?

Katara Pravda said...

Yeah, that sounds great.

Alesha said...

Wonderful--Alan's rough script is written and posted under "script." I wasn't sure what to do with him.

countktulu said...

I think it would be a good idea to meet tonight if that is possible for everyone, but no stress since I'm sort of late saying this. I just think it'd be easier to get the script done this way. I'm available anytime past 6, so let me know. Call me tho:

Alesha said...

I cannot meet tonight, but I think what might work best is if everyone writes their script and sends it to you, then you can organize them according to the questions you will ask. If that is too much for you, then perhaps we could meet on Monday to go over script for a bit and Tuesday to film. What do you think?

Katara Pravda said...

I think it would be good to take some time at least to go over the script once it's done before we begin filming.

I can meet whenever: tonight, Monday, Tuesday...

Just let me know either on here or you can email me: eeyorenbugs_11@yahoo.com
